The decision to establish a new horror film festival was certainly also due to Covid-19. With the cancellation of NIFFF 2020, one became even more aware that there are no alternative events in Switzerland. Occasional, very small horror events are also taking place in German-speaking Switzerland. But not one with the ambition of becoming an established, internationally recognized festival throughout Switzerland.

This is how the first concepts for the BRUGGGORE Horror Movie Festival came about and the idea seems to be well received. The first edition of the festival in April 2021 is supported by the cultural funding agencies Swisslos Fonds and Pro Argovia Kaktus. The feedback on the festival's social media channels has been consistently positive. And with Cinema Excelsior, BRUGGGORE can be held in a modern 170-seat cinema for the first year. More than festival founders Michel Frutig, Romana Hegi, Daniel Steffen, Salomé Brozman and Stephan Filati could ever have hoped for.
