THOU SHALT NOT KILL... EXCEPT and ARMY OF DARKNESS are the December package for horror geeks. So we have Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell in pairs — anyone who knows them knows that you can look forward to stupid sayings and a few splashes of blood.
It must have been a fun time back then. When Sam Raimi, Ted Raimi, Bruce Cambell, Scott Spiegel and what-I know-who-else drank a few beers together and wrote a bit of a script. And then came THOU SHALT NOT KILL... EXCEPT (originally called STRYKER'S WAR) out. The profound post-Vietnam drama revolves around Jack Stryker, who actually just wants his peace, but is instead confronted with a bloodthirsty cult. That's why he just has to pick up the gun again. Although Sam Raimi had already celebrated a huge success with EVIL DEAD, somehow no one wanted to support STRYKER'S WAR financially. Anyone who sees the movie wonders why.
ARMY OF DARKNESS There is hardly any need for explanation at this stage. Poor Ash is thrown back to 1300 years before Christ and has to run after the ominous Necronomicon once again. With the chainsaw on his arm, he conquers hearts and reduces the size of skeletal armies. The perfect pre-Christmas fun.
