As a feminist version of the Conan der Barbarian stories, Bertrand Mandico's SHE IS CONANN shows vignettes from the life of female barbarian Conann. On her journey through the abyss, the human-like underworld dog Rainer (Elina Löwensohn) tells six episodes of Conann's life — a retelling of her rise to barbaric power. In each of the operetta, opulently staged sections, Conann is played by a new actress — the stories almost always culminate in a fantastic outbreak of violence.
As early as 2022, a significant part of our audience was impressed by filmmaker Bertrand Mandico and his film AFTER BLUE. Mandico is known for his gender-bending stories, cartoonish and supernatural portrayals. He is also an adventurous filmmaker with an unconventional and ingenious way of working: His sets are in love with detail; Mandico has neither green screens nor computer effects. He only makes all the sound recordings at the end and also lets the performers recap their roles themselves. The result: pure cult.
