With MOTHER SUPERIOR (2022), we are pleased to welcome an Austrian film to our Official Competition. Director Marie Alice Wolfszahn is responsible for the film, which is originally called Mater Superior.
1975, Villa Rosenkreuz. Sigrun reports to the cranky Baroness Heidenreich as a nurse. A mutual need unites the two — the old lady's memory holds the secret of Sigrun's past; the vitality of the young woman holds the key to the Baroness's future. On the way to knowledge, Sigrun is confronted with the dark world of “ethnic” occultism, which tests her values and opens up eerie abysses for her.
Mother Superior is part of our Official Competition. Vote at the festival and decide which of five films receives the “Eye of the Beholder” award. You will receive the voting cards before the performance. The grand awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:00pm at Cinema Excelsior.
