Mexico has a long, exciting past when it comes to horror movies. And fangirls and fanboys have probably heard of director Isaac Ezban. With The Similars (Los Parecidos), he created a sensational film back in 2015 that stretched the boundaries of the genre in all directions. With EVIL EYE (2022), he now also makes it to BRUGGGORE — and first into our Official Competition.

13-year-old Nala travels with her family from the city to visit her grandmother in the countryside. There, her mother hopes for a cure for her little sister's mysterious illness. But the parents are quickly gone again — and the grandmother is kind of creepy as a screw!

Evil Eye is part of our Official Competition. Vote at the festival and decide which of five films receives the “Eye of the Beholder” award. You will receive the voting cards before the performance. The grand awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:00pm at Cinema Excelsior.

Evil Eye is a classic horror work. Beautifully done both in acting and staging. Perfect for hiding in a cinema chair with your butt squinted.
