It's a Mad World

Donnie Darko

Donnie Darko is a teenager who lives in an American suburb and is plagued by visions of a hare named Frank. Frank predicts the end of the world for him in exactly 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds. The nastiest thing about it: Frank's prophecies come true and he increasingly begins to influence Donnie.

Unfortunately, Richard Kelly did not have much success with his first feature film at first. The theatrical release flopped, although the reasons should not be mentioned here, as this would not be possible without spoilers. Things went much better with the DVD release, which helped the film achieve international fame and a veritable cult status. It's not just the great soundtrack that's convincing. DONNIE DARKO addresses mental health, free will, predestination and time travel and creates a dense atmosphere.

We're showing the original Theatrical Cut.

Beware! [Sexual Content] [Substance Abuse] [Child Abuse]

Remembering, I grab the chic Collectors Edition DVD in a metal case. To the ears, the music of Tears for Fears, Duran Duran and, fittingly, Echo & The Bunnymen. “Already cult” was the name on the back of the DVD box and in fact it can be said that DONNIE DARKO has impressed an entire generation of experimental horror fans. Until now, there has hardly been a chance to see the work in cinema. That is why I am particularly looking forward to it.
